VISION
Pope John Paul II and Mother Teresa are among the greatest spiritual leaders and virtuous heroes in history.  They achieved greatness because their words and their actions provided inspiration and hope to billions of people regardless of religious affiliation.  Both were endowed with profound faith and deep love for humanity, so it is not surprising that their messages and concerns were often similar.  They shared a common affection for the world’s young people as they tirelessly crusaded to protect their rights, ensure their dignity, and secure their future.

It was with this in mind that a vision emerged to create an enduring artistic legacy that would pay homage to these two future Saints and their devotion to the world’s youth while memorializing young people from our own families and communities at large.  Entitled ‘All Their Children,’ this historic work of art will be painted by a living master – Igor Babailov – who some consider the ‘Michelangelo’ of our time.  The painting will grace the halls of a world-class museum, enabling future generations to be inspired and moved.

ABOUT THE PAINTING
All Their Children will be a warm, Renaissance-style multi-figurative study depicting Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II in the company of approximately twenty young people.   This unique work of art is the first of its kind; no similar large-scale thematic study with these subjects has been created on canvas by a major artist.  Its scale will be breathtakingly massive, measuring approximately 8 ft x 6 ft. The following images of Babailov at work on his life-size papal portraits provide a sense of the grandeur that will characterize All Their Children

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Igor Babailov was born in  Glazov, Russia in 1965 and  began his formal  training at the age  of nine.  He attended the elite Surikov College of Fine Arts when he was thirteen after winning a nationwide competition and graduated with an MFA.  He is a sought after lecturer who has taught at the prestigious Florence Academy of Fine Arts.  Bestowed with the title 'Living Master' by his contemporaries, Babailov is world renowned as one of today’s most accomplished spiritual painters and portraitists.  He has remained true to the tradition of painting in the style of the Renaissance Masters and infuses his works with rich symbolism.  Igor anchors his artistic vision in technical skills he has been honing since he was four.  He is painstakingly attentive to detail and to arrangement of his figures in murals as any 15th-Century Florentine master.   He believes that painting should "educate and enrich" and convey meaning to future generations.

Babailov has been commissioned to paint portraits for many World Leaders, Celebrities, Athletes, and the last two Catholic Popes.  His life-sized portrait of Pope John Paul II was completed in 2004 on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the Holy Father’s Pontifcate and in commemoration of World Youth Day.  The painting was kept in the Pope's own Vatican apartment until four months before John Paul II passed, and now is on display at the Papal summer residence in Castel Gandolfo.  In 2008 Babailov completed his life-size portrait of Pope Benedict XVI, which he was privileged to unveil during the Pope's recent trip to Washington, DC on the day of Benedict's birthday.  Other important Babailov  portraits include those of  President George W. Bush (Presidential Collection), Hillary  R. Clinton (Clinton Presidential Center),  Nelson Mandela (South Africa Presidential Collection),  President Vladimir Putin of Russia (Kremlin), Rudolph Giuliani (Giuliani Partners), Prime Minister Brian Mulroney (Parliament Hill, House of Commons), Regis Philbin, James Gandolfini, Bobby Hull, Boomer Esiason, American sculptor Frederick Hart (Museumof John Paul II Cultural Center), Japanese film director Akira Kurosawa, and many more. A sampling of important Babailov works is shown below.
